Objectives

The delegate will take part in a training programme which provides the knowledge and skills required to be able to design, implement and monitor a system of risk assessment within the workplace.

The training will encompass the following and will enable the person to:

1. Introduction:
Explain what Risk Assessment is
Understand the legal requirements relating to Risk Assessment
Identify the main steps in carrying out risk assessment
Understand how Risk Assessment is applied in the workplace

2. Areas to be covered:
Assess the risks arising from : Activities
Materials
Equipment
People
Work Place
Procedures

3. Create and complete appropriate documentation for record keeping

4. Use Hazard Checklists as assessment tools

5. Practical Risk Assessment Session:
Carry out necessary planning and preparation
Undertake an assessment of risks
Complete the documentation
Develop a record keeping system

Requirements

No prior knowledge of, experience or qualifications in health and safety is required, although basic knowledge of employer's policy and procedures and the work environment would be beneficial.

ALSO NOTE THAT IN THE EVENT OF ANY DELEGATES NOT TURNING UP ON THE DAY, UNLESS WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED PRIOR TO THIS, YOU MAY BE CHARGED 30% OF THE COURSE FEES FOR COSTS INCURRED.

Notes

If your organisation has five or more employees it is legally obliged to carry out a "suitable and sufficient" assessment of risk arising from work activities and to record the significant findings.

This course will be delivered using a combination of lectures, case studies and practical exercises to offer practical guidance on risk assessment.
