Objectives
The delegate will take part in an extended training programme which provides the knowledge and skills required for a successful career in engineering. The training will enable the candidate to:
1. Undertake their work in a manner which meets the Health & Safety
requirements of current legislation, industry and employer set standards
and personal needs.
2. Develop skills in communication, numeracy, problem solving, ICT and
working effectively with others.
3. Understand basic engineering drawing layouts, terminology and symbols,
and will be able to read, draw and understand the contents.
4. Distinguish between types of materials and their properties.
5. Read, interpret and make use of engineering information.
6. Establish effective working relationships with colleagues.
7. Work in one of the following three technical skill ares:
- Mechanical
- Electrical
- Fabrication & Welding
8. Develop skills suited to the job role in discussion with the employer.
Requirements
Delegates will normally be school leavers, apprentices or Modern Apprentices. The course is full time and will be delivered at our training centre in Nerston, East Kilbride. An offer to start will be made after the delegate has been interviewed and completed basic selection tests.
Delegates must have a history of good attendance and time keeping. Delegates also require a minimum of grade 3 standard grads in English, Mathematics and a Technical Subject and be committed to obtaining employment in the engineering industry.
Notes
Delegates completing this foundation training course will be awarded a Scottish Vocational Qualification at Level 2 in Performing Engineering Operations which has been identified by the Engineering Sector Skills Council as the most suitable foundation award for engineering apprentices.
