Objectives
This course is designed to enable practicing electricians to carry out the inspection and testing of electrical appliance procedures in a safe and effective manner and within the legal requirements.
The delegate will take part in a training programme which provides an understanding of the legal requirements for the maintenance of electrical equipment, as well as the knowledge and practical skills to carry out and record the process. The training will enable the person to:
1. State the legal requirements for the maintenance of electrical equipment.
2. Recognise the construction and classification of electrical equipment.
3. Determine the frequency of electrical inspection testing procedures, and record the findings accurately.
4. Consider different types of test equipment, and the merits of each.
5. Carry out the appliance testing procedure as specified.
6. Record the results to meet the legal requirements placed on the company.
7. Ensure an ongoing management program is in place.
Requirements
This qualification is aimed at practicing electricians involved in the inspection and testing of electrical equipment and/or those involved in managing the process.
These qualifications are not approved for use by candidates under the age of 18.
A limited course, to enable responsible individuals, who do not meet the above standards, to carry out testing and inspection of purely portable appliances, is also available. Staff selected for PAT work should be reliable and responsible individuals, who accept the importance of such testing in the workplace.

Notes
All companies, regardless of size, have a legal responsibility to maintain electrical equipment in a safe and suitable condition. One way of complying with the legal requirement is to undertake regular and planned inspection and testing of all electrical equipment and recording the results.

The course examinations are the Management of electrical appliances testing which is 1.5 hours and the Testing of electrical appliances which is 1 hour. Both tests are multiple choice, open book, PC based exams which allows instant results. Exams start times are available between 0830-1300 and are normally arranged for the following week.
Exam Re-sits.
For candidates who have taken this course with EKGTA the cost of a re-sit is £52 per test.
